Welcome to Mike Byrnes & Associates, Inc.
Helping to Build Successful Trucking Careers since 1987

Mike Byrnes & Assoc., Inc. has been helping to launch successful truck driving careers since 1987. Of course our BUMPER TO BUMPER publications give applicants the information that they need to pass the CDL tests. But they do more. They provide the resources needed to lay the foundation for a lifetime of successful commercial driving. Because as important as it is, a CDL is just license and CDL prep is not an education.

Anyone serious about having a rewarding and enjoyable career as a commercial truck driver realizes that it takes:

  • A commitment to safety

  • A professional attitude

  • Dedication to customer service

  • A thorough understanding of the equipment, regulations and the working environment

  • Respect for self and the employer

All of these contribute to the feeling of self-confidence that enables even the newest driver to handle any challenge with success. Be it equipment failure, a traffic jam or a demanding customer, a well-trained driver with the right attitude knows what to do. A good education equips the new driver to be successful from the first day on the job and for many days and many miles thereafter.

Whether the medium is print, audio, video or even a simulator, whether the material is delivered in-residence or by distance learning, the content has to be complete, authoritative, up-to-date and easy and enjoyable for the learner to use. And that's what we've been offering for over 22 years. Check out our publications on the Answers page. You'll see that we're serious about truck driver training!

We Are Proud to Announce...

Barron's Commercial Driver's License Truck Driver's Test ... the publication of the THIRD edition of  "Commercial Driver's License Truck Driver's Test," written by yours truly, Mike Byrnes & Assoc., Inc., and published by Barron's Educational Series, Inc. Publication of this newly updated CDL test-preparation guide is slated for next month, March 2010.  Both professional and prospective tractor-trailer drivers can use this manual to prepare for the tests that they must pass to get a CDL. Comprehensive coverage of both the written and driving tests includes lots of practice tests (with answers, of course) for the general knowledge, air brakes and endorsement tests. The book is generously illustrated with detailed diagrams and drawings that demonstrate the proper procedures drivers must master to pass the inspection and skills tests. A detailed index, test-preparation and test-taking tips mean readers can design a test-prep program that best suits their needs.

We at Mike Byrnes & Assoc., Inc., were delighted when Barron's Educational Series, Inc., asked us to write the first edition of this test prep book back in 1991 when a CDL first became required. This newest edition reflects changes to hours-of-service, cargo securement and hazardous materials regulations, among others.

"Commercial Driver's License Truck Driver's Test" will be available in paperback, approximately 8.375" by 10.875", with 448 pages. The ISBN13 is 978-0-7641-4382-3 (or ISBN10: 0-7641-4382-4). Single copies are $18.99 ($22.99 in Canada). For information about discounts or to request a review copy for prep courses or schools, contact Anne Realmuto at
arealmuto@barronseduc.com. Or call us at 361-749-4007 or send an email to mbapub@aol.com.

CSA 2010

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced the availability of the Comprehensive Safety Analysis (CSA) 2010 Data Preview, which will allow individual motor carriers to review their safety performance data by the CSA 2010 Behavior Analysis and Safety Improvement Categories (BASICs). The Data Preview begans on April 12, 2010 and ends on November 30, 2010, the national launch date for the CSA 2010 safety enforcement program.

During the data preview period, motor carriers are encouraged to closely examine their performance data and immediately address any safety problems.  This is also an opportunity for motor carriers to update and verify their safety performance data online. This allows motor carriers to identify and address unsafe behaviors that can lead to crash risk. It also underscores FMCSA’s commitment to data integrity and the motor carrier industry’s responsibility for ensuring commercial vehicle safety.

Complete details on the Data Preview and the CSA 2010 implementation schedule are published in the Federal Register. The CSA 2010 implementation schedule supports the critical importance of incorporating the findings from over 30 months of operational model testing in nine CSA 2010 pilot states.

SCAM ALERT!

John Rojas, Del Mar College Transportation Training Services, reports the following scammer information: Scam Alert
"A guy going by the name Wayne Young called my school twice today. He says that he needs 4 drivers today. His company is called USA Car & Truck. He is offering students $500 a week training and then .32 per mile. His phone number is 225-326-0348. We called him back and spooked him. When we asked too many questions he hung up on us."
